Russians demonstrate combat use of TOS-2 heavy flamethrower system at the front for the first time
On October 17, the Russian Ministry of Defense showed footage of the TOS-2 Tosochka heavy flamethrower system operating on the front line. Although information about the use of this system on the Ukrainian front appeared back in May, this is the first time the Russian military has officially confirmed it.
The video was published on the website of the Russian Defense Ministry on October 17.
According to the statement, the flamethrower system was used to target a fortified area of Ukrainian troops, but the exact location of the incident was not reported.
“Experts highly appreciate the performance of the TOS-2 Tosochka flamethrower system due to its increased mobility, enhanced firepower, increased range and high accuracy of the ammunition used,” the statement said.
Russian experts note that the TOS-2 system was created with combat operations on the territory of Ukraine in mind and differs from its predecessors TOS-1 Buratino and TOS-1A Solntsepek in its wheelbase and improved tactical and technical characteristics.
At the same time, in the future, the above tracked systems will not be decommissioned, but will undergo modernization. According to the Russian resource “Military Review,” TOS-1 and TOS1A will receive modern digital communications equipment, as well as closed data transmission equipment, which will allow them to be integrated into automatic control systems (ACS). In addition, the designers of the aggressor country intend to modernize the ammunition for these systems, increasing their range to 15 km instead of the current 6 km.
