Ukrainian Armed Forces received Senator MRAP armored vehicles from Canada
The Ukrainian military received a batch of new Senator armored vehicles in the MRAP version. This was reported by the Defense Blog, according to “DS”.
The armored vehicles were supplied by the Canadian company Roshel Smart Armored Vehicles. It is noted that, unlike the previous version, the new armored vehicle has improved protection against mine explosions, which provides additional benefits for the military in performing various combat missions.
Roshel presented a new version of the Senator armored vehicle in the MRAP version at the end of May this year. At the same time, it was announced that production would begin. The vehicle was developed based on the experience of using Senator in the Ukrainian Defense Forces during the war with Russia.
The armored vehicle is designed to accommodate up to 10 soldiers and provides a high level of protection against explosive devices and ambushes, ensuring the safety of the crew. The new armored vehicle has a V-shaped body bottom and special seats with cushioning are installed in its interior. Such solutions are designed to minimize the impact of blast energy on the crew inside when detonated by an explosive device.
“You feel safer when you know that there is special protection against Russian mines under your feet,” said the soldier who is currently driving the vehicle.
Senator in the MRAP version has successfully passed a series of tests and demonstrated its suitability. The tests were conducted in accordance with STANAG 4569 AEP55 level 2 and 2a/2b. The ballistic and explosive tests were conducted by a NATO-certified independent US laboratory.
The armored vehicle’s protection must be able to withstand fire from bullets of up to 7.62 × 39 mm caliber at a distance of 30 meters, as well as the detonation of 6 kg of explosives (anti-tank mines) under any wheel or under the bottom of the vehicle.
Recently, at the Ramstein meeting, Canada announced a new package of military aid to Ukraine, which will include artillery shells and other weapons, as well as winter uniforms and sleeping bags.
