The Dutch company PAL-V is finally starting production of its flying car Liberty. In 2024, they plan to produce 90 such devices worth 499,000 euros.
PAL-V Liberty has been in development for 15 years. The first prototype of the flying car was tested in 2009, and the pre-production model was presented three years later.
Now the project is finally in the home stretch and the first PAL-V showroom will open in Munich in November. Later, a more affordable version of the Liberty will appear for 299,000 euros. Buyers will be invited to flight courses, where they will be able to take training and obtain a pilot’s license free of charge.
The PAL-V Liberty combines the features of a car and a helicopter or gyroplane (an aircraft with propeller and pusher rotor). This is a two-seater capsule on wheels 4 meters long. It is made of composite materials, so it weighs 664 kg.
The flying car is equipped with folding propellers and push rods. Rotax engine with a capacity of 200 hp. с. allows it to reach 180 km/h in the air, climb to an altitude of up to 3,500 m and travel up to 500 km. A 200-meter stretch of road is enough for takeoff, but Liberty’s landing is vertical.
A separate 100-horsepower engine is provided for road travel. It can accelerate to 100 km/h in 9 seconds and reach 170 km/h.
