Where did the shadows go?: satellite images of the Belbek airbase appear, showing four painted MiG-31s
In the temporarily occupied Crimea, Russian troops painted MiG-31 aircraft at the Belbek air base.
This was reported by an analyst at MT Anderson.
Satellite images from October 26 showed several changes at the Russian air base. The occupiers use hangars to hide or protect aircraft. However, some of the fighters are in the open air. In total, such objects were recorded at the Belbek airfield:
- Su-27, Su-30 and Su-34 fighters;
- 4 painted MiG-31s;
- 4 real MiG-31 fighter interceptors.
The fact that the MiG-31s were painted indicates the lack of shadows, they are not visible from the plane. Russia started painting airplanes on its own territory. According to analysts, the purpose of such actions is to mislead the missile, which can be guided to the target by a preloaded image. Satellite images immediately show that the airplane is not real, so it may not be effective. In addition to painting, the enemy also puts tires on aircraft.
