Dark Eagle hypersonic rocket test postponed to next year

In 2023, the US Army failed to launch the Dark Eagle hypersonic missile. The military tried to do this in the spring, but the test was postponed at the organization stage. The Pentagon made another attempt to test the missile last month. It was also unsuccessful.

In both cases, flight tests of hypersonic weapons failed at the preparation stage. The defense ministry leadership does not disclose the nature of the problems.

The test failures cast doubt on the possibility of putting the first battery of LHRW systems on combat duty. Initially, it was planned that this would happen at the end of 2023. Due to the failed tests, the Pentagon postponed the deadline indefinitely.

Experts note that the failed tests raised an important question for the military: whether it is possible to create a working hypersonic weapon of sea- or land-based capability.
