The Turkish cargo ship Kafkametler with 12 crew members on board, which was sailing from Russia, sank off the Black Sea coast during a storm on Sunday, November 19. The authorities cannot get in touch with the crew.
This was stated on Monday by Turkish Interior Minister Ali Erlikaya, Censor.NET reports citing Reuters.
The captain of the Turkish-flagged Kafkametler reported on Sunday morning that the vessel was drifting toward the breakwater near the city of Ereğli in the province of Zonguldak in northwestern Turkey.
According to Erlikai, the ship sank after hitting a breakwater.
On Sunday, powerful storms hit the region. The office of the provincial governor said that bad weather prevented aircraft and ships from conducting search operations. The authorities are unable to contact the crew.
“When the unfavorable weather conditions improve, the search and rescue operations will begin immediately,” Erlikaya told reporters.
