Scholarships may be canceled for some Ukrainian students – the Ministry of Education and Science provided details
Some Ukrainian students may have their scholarships canceled. We are talking about those who are abroad during their studies. However, for those who have remained in Ukraine, the situation may get better. Scholarships will be increased for these people.
This was stated by Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Mykhailo Vynnytskyi during a telethon.
He noted that the first priority should be to help those students who remain in Ukraine. According to him, it is they who will rebuild the country after the end of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
“The issue of scholarships for students abroad will be covered, and this will mean that we will have savings that will allow us to increase scholarships for those in Ukraine. We have to help students studying in Ukraine, who are building our country together with us, so that they really have the opportunity to study,” the Deputy Minister said.
Now, at the request of the President of Ukraine, the Ministry of Education must analyze the number of students studying abroad. After that, students studying on a state-funded basis will have to make a choice whether they will continue their studies while abroad, but at their own expense.
Vynnytsky emphasized that the scholarship is primarily intended for those students whose professions will be needed for the victory and reconstruction of Ukraine.
What you need to know about student mobilization in Ukraine
Earlier, we mentioned that due to martial law, there is a general mobilization of men aged 18 to 60 who are liable for military service. However, students are entitled to a deferment from the draft, provided they are studying full-time. This applies to people studying in:
- schools;
- colleges;
- higher education institutions;
- D. program;
- graduate school.
But there is an exception to the rule. It turns out that a student can be mobilized during his or her academic leave if he or she has no other grounds for deferment from service, for example, due to health reasons.
This is because a person does not actually study during the period of academic leave. That is why the right to deferral is canceled. In addition, any student can be called up for service at will. This also applies to applicants for education in foreign universities.
