Postgraduate student of the Mechanical Engineering Institute of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. Svitlana Burburska has developed a titanium implant that not only replaces the damaged part of the bone but also grows with it.

The uniqueness of these implants lies in the fact that they are individualized, and 3D printing is used to create them. The part is made precisely for a specific place on the bone to exactly repeat its shape. This titanium implant can be lengthened during surgery.

“Whenever we can find such a solution, we ensure the preservation of the limb,” emphasized Svitlana Burburska.

Svitlana’s design became a sensation after the story of eight-year-old Bohdan, which dev.ua previously reported. The cancer damaged 28 cm of the boy’s femur. Such lesions lead to complete amputation of the limb. This was the first case in Ukraine when a titanium implant was fitted to a child, saving his leg.

The Ukrainian design of the uraza is cheaper than the foreign one. It is very lightweight and durable, suitable for both large areas and those where a jewelry approach is required. It is also suitable for almost all human bones.
