A 40-mm FN Herstal FN40GL-S grenade launcher has arrived in Ukraine (photo)
The Ukrainian military is now armed with grenade launchers manufactured by the Belgian company FN. This was reported by OSINT researcher Weapons Illustrated, which tracks new weapons based on open data.
A photo of a volunteer from Sweden holding an FN Herstal FN40GL-S Mk1 grenade launcher has been posted on social media. According to the researcher, such a grenade launcher has been photographed in Ukraine before, but this is the first time it has been shown in good quality.
It is worth noting that the FN 40GL can be produced as an under-barrel grenade launcher, but the sample shown in the photo is a stand-alone weapon. The FN40GL is available in several versions:
- The FN40GL-L is a lightweight under-barrel grenade launcher for the SCAR-L assault rifle;
- The FN40GL-H is a heavy under-barrel grenade launcher for the SCAR-H assault rifle;
- The FN-40GL-S (Stand Alone) is a stand-alone weapon with a telescopic stock and pistol grip, as well as a Picatinny rail.
It was the last of the three versions that appeared in the photo in Ukraine. Judging by the weather conditions, the photo could have been taken earlier, as the greenery is still visible around. The FN-40GL-S has an aiming range of 300 meters and an initial velocity of 76 meters per second.
