A floating LNG terminal will appear in Poland

The Polish company Gaz-System has selected a supplier for the country’s first floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), which will be located in the port of Gdansk. This was reported by the company’s press service.

The tender was won by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, a Japanese transportation company with the world’s largest fleet of LNG carriers, including seven FSRUs.

“The selection of a plant supplier is an important step in the implementation of the FSRU program, which the company has been working on for many months. In the near future, we will focus on developing detailed terms of the so-called time charter. In addition, we need to obtain all the necessary corporate approvals from the company’s governing bodies to sign an agreement with the shipowner,” said Andrzej Kęsbok, Vice President of Gaz-System.

The first floating LNG terminal in Poland is planned to be launched in 2027-2028 with a capacity of 6.1 bcm. m.

Gaz-System also operates Poland’s first stationary LNG terminal in Świnoujście, which has been in operation since 2016. Its capacity is 6.2 billion cubic meters. m, the gas company PGNiG of the Orlen Group is responsible for the supply.

In 2023, the terminal in Świnoujście received 62 shipments of liquefied natural gas with a total volume of 4.66 million tons, up 6% year-on-year.
