A road that charges passing electric cars has appeared in the United States
In the United States, the city of Detroit has installed wireless charging on the roadway for the first time to charge electric vehicles while driving, New Atlas reports.
The basic idea behind the technology is that inductive coils embedded under roads can send charge to receivers installed under electric vehicles and charge the batteries when the cars are parked or moving on the road.
Such an infrastructure could potentially eliminate the need for large batteries, reduce car production costs, and facilitate wider adoption of electric vehicles, as drivers would not have to think about how to charge their cars.
In Detroit, inductive charging coils from Electreon Wireless were installed on 402 meters of road.
They will be activated only when an electric car equipped with an Electreon receiver passes by.
