A strange column of smoke was noticed in the sky of Alaska: eyewitnesses recorded the phenomenon and do not believe the explanation of the authorities
At once, several Alaskans noticed an incomprehensible phenomenon in the sky over the mountains. Local authorities have tried to explain the giant column of smoke, but eyewitnesses seem to believe more in UFOs.
Witnesses of the event over Lazy Mountain are sharing photos on Facebook. In particular, the photos appeared in the group of the Palmer region.
What is known
One of the eyewitnesses is Matthias Alvin. On Thursday morning, he left his house to start the car and saw something unusual in the sky.
I looked up and saw something strange – I would call it a pillar of smoke. It was a dark gray stripe in the sky moving vertically, he said.
Alvin took a few pictures in about 45 seconds. At first, he thought he was watching the plane crash.

- Law enforcement agencies immediately sent a search aircraft towards the phenomenon, but the pilots did not find anything. Then the questions were forwarded to the military.
- Meanwhile, Alvin’s wife posted pictures on her page and in a group in the region, where similar observations were shared by other residents.
- People speculated that they had witnessed a rocket launch, a meteor crash, a plane crash, a volcanic eruption, or perhaps even a military operation.
- A few hours later, the military spoke publicly about its investigation.
- According to them, what Alvin saw was a trace of condensation from an airplane illuminated by the rising sun. It actually flew horizontally, but the viewing angle created the illusion that the object was falling over the mountain.
“Police believe the photos and video show a trail of a commercial aircraft combined with the rising sun, which together created a unique atmospheric spectacle. We are very grateful to the many Alaskans who reported the suspicious sight to law enforcement this morning,” they wrote.
According to the military, the investigation showed that a large commercial plane was flying in the area around the time photos and videos were taken. He was contacted and found that the flight conditions were normal, no problems were observed.
Anchorage Daily News quoted Eddie Zingon, a meteorologist with the National Meteorological Service in Anchorage, as saying the military’s explanation was that they knew about condensation, clouds of water vapor produced by high-altitude aircraft. There was a lot of moisture in the atmosphere on Thursday morning, which could lead to condensation. “It was just a very bright trail,” he says.

Commentators’ reaction
Commentators on social media immediately began trying to find holes in this explanation, with some speculating that the government was hiding a UFO crash or a secret weapons test.
“Our government is testing hypersonic missiles and airplanes. I would assume that the general public will not be aware of the impact or consequences that such a spacecraft or weapon will have on our atmosphere. ??? Food for thought.” — wrote one of the participants in the conversation.
Some even said they heard two jets flying overhead quickly. Others tried to explain the phenomenon by “atmospheric experiments” or simply stated that they did not believe this version.
But still in the photo you can see the inverse trace of the plane, but in fear the eyes are big, as they say, and people can see everything. … we hope that the war will end soon, and we will see in the skies of Ukraine not missiles and bombs, but peaceful planes and traces of them.
