A “surprise” awaits: NATO announces news for Ukraine at the summit in Vilnius (video)
North Atlantic Treaty Organization Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the leaders of the member states may soon come to a unified decision on Ukraine’s membership in the organization.
Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas announces a “surprise” regarding Ukraine’s NATO membership. She said this on Wednesday, June 28, at a press conference with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
“I am convinced that the only effective guarantee of security for Ukraine is NATO membership. However, I don’t want to predict the surprise that will be revealed at the summit in Vilnius,” Kallas said.
For his part, Stoltenberg expressed confidence that the leaders gathered at the meeting would “come to a unified decision” on Ukraine’s accession to NATO.
“It is too early to make assumptions about the outcome of the summit. Consultations are underway, as is usual when making important decisions. However, I am absolutely confident that the leaders gathered at the summit will come to a unified decision on how to respond to Ukraine’s membership aspirations,” the Secretary General emphasized.
On June 28, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine’s membership in NATO would guarantee that peace and freedom would prevail in the region.
As a reminder, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on June 21 that Ukraine is expecting good news regarding the prospects of Ukraine’s membership in the Alliance.
