A terrible disaster: two tornadoes hit the US state of Tennessee (video)

At least six people died as a result of tornadoes and storms that swept through the US state of Tennessee on Saturday, December 9. Videos of the tornado and its aftermath were posted on social media.

The northern part of the state was affected by the weather, particularly the city of Clarksville in Montgomery County. Two adults and a child were killed, the county authorities reported on Facebook. At least 23 people were injured.

“This is terrible news, our hearts go out to the families of those who lost loved ones. The city stands ready to help them in their time of need,” said Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts.

Three more people were killed in Madison, the northeastern outskirts of Nashville.

The National Weather Service confirmed the presence of two tornadoes: one in Montgomery County and one further west near the town of Rutherford in Gibson County.

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee issued a statement on Twitter (X), saying that he and his wife are praying for the residents of the state affected by the tornado.

“We regret the lives lost and ask everyone to continue to follow the instructions of county and state officials,” he wrote.

According to Accuweather, the tornadoes appeared at a time when a strong storm system with a cold front was passing through the region. On Sunday, they will continue to move eastward and are expected to bring deteriorating weather to other regions of the United States.
