A trident was installed on the Motherland monument in Kyiv
On Sunday, August 6, a trident was raised on the Motherland monument in the Ukrainian capital. Final installation work is scheduled to be completed by the Flag Day of Ukraine on August 23.
The establishment of the Emblem of Independent Ukraine instead of the forbidden symbols of the totalitarian regime of the former Soviet Union should have happened long ago, but before the war no one had the will and desire to do so. However, this was noticed in 2022, mainly because, fortunately, the former Minister of Culture of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko saw this as an opportunity to make some money and a large PR campaign was launched in the media controlled by him and the current government.
So, last year, the Diia app launched a vote to decide the fate of the USSR coat of arms on the shield of the Motherland. According to the poll, the majority of Ukrainians voted in favor of replacing the USSR coat of arms with the state coat of arms.
At the same time, many Ukrainian figures, politicians, and the community were in favor of demolishing the entire monument because the entire Motherland monument is a Soviet symbol. But Ukrainians were not offered such an option in the vote, and the Ministry of Culture, headed by Tkachenko, was categorically against it.
And then the strangeness began. On July 25, the Ministry of Culture announced that the trident for the Motherland was going to be made of European metal, as the steel provided by Zaporizhstal for some reason did not meet the technical requirements. It is still unclear how.
“The steel provided by the plant has different thicknesses, which can change the weight of the entire structure. In addition, the material from the plant had a significant amount of damage, which would have complicated and slowed down the preparatory work,” notes Minkult.
On July 28, Zaporizhstal called the refusal of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy to accept the free Ukrainian steel for the Motherland trident due to non-compliance with technical requirements groundless.
“We are confident that the steel produced at Zaporizhstal is suitable for the production of the trident. The Steel Works disagrees with the conclusions of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine and the above-mentioned defect report. We consider the claims to be biased and unfounded and will defend the honor of the Ukrainian manufacturer and Ukrainian steel,” the statement said.
However, the authorities completely ignored Zaporizhstal’s statement.
On July 29, it was reported that the Motherland monument in Kyiv would be renamed to Mother Ukraine: the decision must be approved by the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy.
On July 30, dismantling work began on the monument. On Saturday, August 5, it was not possible to install the trident on the Motherland monument due to strong gusts of wind. This was done only early in the morning on Sunday, August 6.
The most interesting thing is that the Ministry of Culture stated that the replacement of the coat of arms would cost 28 million. UAH. and it will be private business funds. Whose, is still unknown. This is very strange, given that the Ministry of Culture itself was categorically against such a replacement, but when the funds for this appeared (from where?), it changed its mind extremely sharply. The history of such metamorphoses is described by Slovo i Dilo.
Also, the Ministry of Culture and the authorities refer to the fact that the majority of people in Diya voted for the replacement. It is so because it is an obvious answer without any polls. But it’s a matter of timing and when to make such a replacement. The society and ordinary people of Ukraine have repeatedly expressed their opinion that the funds allocated for the replacement of the coat of arms could be used for defense needs, as there is a lack of funds for the most basic things on the front line, and the replacement of the coat of arms should be postponed until after the war. But for some reason, the authorities know better.
There is also information that the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has not ordered a single drone for the military, but has managed to spend billions of dollars somewhere they do not know.
Ukrainians are tired of outright corruption in Ukraine’s top government, parasitism and manipulation of socially important issues…
