A woman from the United States has become a Guinness World Record holder after being stuck in an elevator for a week
Kiveli, a 76-year-old New Yorker, is used to using elevators every day and has never had any problems. However, on December 28, right after Christmas, she was out of luck.
On this day, Kiveli went to the nearest supermarket to buy some groceries. Returning home with her bags full, she entered the elevator to go up to the third floor, home.
But suddenly the elevator stopped between the second and third floors and got stuck. This was reported by the Guinness Book of Records.
Kiveli started screaming and knocking on the door desperately, hoping for rescue. However, her apartment turned out to be the only one in the entire building – the others were empty.
Despite the fact that the building was located in a busy shopping district on Anexartisias Street, Kiveli’s cries went unheard.
In the tiny elevator, the woman barely had enough space to stand. It was impossible to sleep or just lie down. All night long she did not close her eyes, praying and waiting for the dawn. When morning came, Kiveli started knocking again and calling for help.
To save food and avoid going to the toilet, Kiveli ate almost nothing. However, on the third day, her hunger set in and she ate a few tomatoes from her purchases.
On the fourth day of being trapped, Kiveli felt unbearable weakness in her legs. After sitting down to rest for a moment, she suddenly realized that she could no longer stand up.
For the next three days, the woman sat on the floor of the elevator. The rescue operation began by accident due to the care of relatives. Kiveli told her family that she was going to Paphos for a few days.
When her niece called to check if she had arrived safely, it turned out that Kiveli had never arrived. A concerned niece called rescuers to her apartment.
When they broke into the apartment and started looking for Kiveli, they suddenly heard faint screams from the elevator shaft. The woman was immediately freed from her concrete trap and taken to the hospital.
