Against the background of the successes of the Armed Forces, NATO thought about the transfer of F-16 fighters to Ukraine
The successes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region, where our fighters conducted a brilliant counteroffensive operation, made NATO countries and their allies think about the feasibility of transferring fighter jets to Ukraine. A high-ranking representative of the Pentagon told FT journalists about this.
According to him, official Washington is discussing the long-term needs of the Armed Forces with its alliance partners. In the medium term, Ukraine needs modern air defense systems and combat aircraft. Until recently, the United States and its allies refused to provide fighter jets to Kyiv.
Ukraine wants to get American F-16 fighter jets. Meanwhile, Washington is in no hurry to hand over even Polish MIG-29s to us. Earlier, Warsaw agreed to exchange them for old American planes with comparable technical characteristics. After closing the deal, the MiGs would be handed over to Ukraine.
