AIM Defense has developed the Fractl:2 laser that destroys drones and burns steel at a distance of up to 2000 meters
AIM Defense has introduced the Fractl:2 laser, which is capable of burning through steel and destroying drones traveling at 100 km/h at a distance of several kilometers. It can be controlled remotely.
When fully charged, the Fractl:2 portable laser has enough power to shoot down 50 drones or can run continuously when plugged in.
AIM Defense co-founder Jessica Glenn said that countering drones and other autonomous weapons systems is now “one of the most critical areas of focus for militaries around the world.”
“Over the past few years, AIM Defense has worked with the defense innovation ecosystem to develop a cost-effective, highly accurate, and easily deployable directed energy system. Fractl:2 is the culmination of these efforts,” said Ms. Glenn.
The company claims that the Fractl:2 has a lower risk of blinding personnel and civilians than comparable high-power laser systems, and that this risk is limited. Dangerous distances for personnel for Fractl:2 were reduced by a factor of 100 compared to typical military directed energy systems with a wavelength of one micron.
AIM Defense co-founder Dr. Jay Daniel said the company has successfully demonstrated the system with “over 200 drone strikes both indoors and outdoors in the last two years.”
Thanks to safety improvements made to the Fractl system after each test, the single-micron version of Fractl:1 is “several orders of magnitude safer than other directed energy systems” and Fractl:2 is “the safest and most deployable high-power laser system in the world.”
