Air Defense Breakthrough: Updated All-in-One SPYDER System Successfully Tested
RAFAEL, together with IMOD DDR&D, has successfully completed testing of the advanced air defense system SPYDER in its latest unique configuration – All In One. The test included intercepting a UAV in a complex operational scenario with a direct hit.
The SPYDER system is used by armed forces around the world, providing air defense solutions against a variety of airborne threats, including missiles, UAVs, aircraft, helicopters and tactical ballistic missiles (TBMs).
The system intercepts threats using two families of interceptor missiles produced by RAFAEL: PYTHON and Derby. RAFAEL has introduced a new SPYDER configuration – All-in-One, which includes an integrated radar, optoelectronic launcher, advanced command and control system, and PYTHON and Derby interceptors mounted on a single platform.
The new configuration serves as an optimal air defense solution for point or area defense either as part of a SPYDER battery or deployed independently with minimal operator involvement.
During the tests, the SPYDER All in One system successfully intercepted the UAV in a complex operational scenario, achieving a successful interception of the target.
Brigadier General Pini Jungman, Executive Vice President and Head of RAFAEL’s Air Defense Division, stated, “RAFAEL is a global expert and leading developer of air defense systems that have proven to combat many of today’s threats and across multiple ranges. Among the leading systems currently in use in Israel and around the world are Iron Dome, SPYDER and David’s Sling. The success of the current test of the SPYDER All in One system is another technological breakthrough pioneered by RAFAEL, providing solutions tailored to different evolving threats in different industries.”
