Airplane accidents have become more frequent in Russia after Western sanctions

Accident statistics are increasing

At the beginning of 2023, accidents involving aircraft continued in the Russian aviation industry. There were at least seven incidents involving aircraft during the week.

The Moscow Times writes about it.

First, on January 5, the board of the Utair airline was forced to land due to a malfunction of the air conditioning system. He was flying from Tyumen to Novy Urengoy.

The next day there were two more plane accidents. Initially, the Azur Air plane flying from Novosibirsk to Thailand had to return to the airport due to damage to the windshield. The flight left at 1:00 a.m. and returned only at 7:00 a.m. There were 263 people on it.

Later that day, a Red Wings passenger plane flying from Kazan to Yekaterinburg returned to the airport after takeoff due to a faulty landing gear. There were 87 passengers and 5 crew members on board.

On January 8, at the Perm airport, the plane of the ‘Pobeda’ airline went off the runway. During the start of the take-off for the flight to Moscow, the ship drifted to the left of the runway into the snow. The crew decided to cancel the takeoff.

And on January 9, the four-year-old Airbus A320neo of S7 Airlines failed to fly from Bratsk to Moscow. He made an emergency landing in Kazan after the fourth hour of the flight due to a malfunction of the toilet system.

Two cases also happened with Russian planes, and in one of them the aircraft fell to the ground. It is an An-2 passenger plane, with ten passengers and two crew members on board. On January 9, the plane crashed in the Nenets Autonomous District due to icing. Two people died, four others were injured.

The second domestic ship, the An-26 ‘IrAero’ passenger plane, flew from Yakutsk to Magadan. Right during the flight, the hatch in the cargo compartment partially opened, as a result of which depressurization occurred at an altitude of several kilometers. The plane returned to the airport of departure. None of the 31 people on board were injured. However, part of the luggage flew out of the plane.

In 2022, more than 130 events involving civil and military aviation took place in Russia. During the year, 28 vessels were involved in an accident.

We will remind you that after the start of the war in Ukraine, the USA, Great Britain and the European Union introduced sanctions against the Russian aviation industry: they closed the skies for Russian planes, blacklisted the largest airlines and their managers. In March, manufacturers Boeing and Airbus stopped supplying spare parts, maintenance and support to Russian airlines. After that, the airlines began to disassemble part of the planes for spare parts to service the other part of the fleet.
