Amazon is ready to send the first Internet satellites into space. As part of Project Kuiper, the company will launch two vehicles.
Amazon intends to launch the Protoflight mission today, on October 6. The company intends to launch KuiperSat-1 and KuiperSat-2 Internet satellites into orbit. These are prototypes of future spacecraft. They are designed to collect data that will help in the development of the project.
Project Kuiper will become a competitor to Starlink. SpaceX has launched almost 5,000 satellites into orbit and will increase the grouping sixfold in the future. Amazon intends to send 3,200 vehicles into space over the next six years.
The Protoflight mission will launch on October 6 at 21:00 (EEST). The Atlas V rocket will deliver KuiperSat-1 and KuiperSat-2 satellites into a 500 km orbit.
