Ambulances intended for Ukrainian hospitals set on fire in Poland
Ambulances to be sent as humanitarian aid to Ukrainian hospitals set on fire in Radłow, Poland: suspect detained.
This was reported by TVN24.
It is noted that the incident occurred on March 2, at about 23:00 Kyiv time, in front of the Radłów city administration building. The fire set fire to ambulances that were supposed to be sent as humanitarian aid to hospitals in Sumy and Kharkiv regions.
The journalists reported that one of the ambulances burned down completely, the other was seriously damaged, and the police had already detained the arson suspect. It was a local resident who had already been prosecuted in 2019 for a similar crime.
The two ambulances and two other vehicles were supposed to go to Ukraine on Saturday as part of a humanitarian convoy organized by the Moc Przyszłości Foundation.
In total, ten vehicles—six ambulances and four pickup trucks—were to be delivered to Ukraine. After the fire, the convoy was reduced to four ambulances and two pickups. The second part of the convoy—two trucks with medical equipment—was not damaged and also went to Ukraine.
“The resuscitation vehicles we were supposed to transfer are extremely important for local doctors and rescuers. At night, I called the director of the hospital in Kharkiv, where the ambulance was supposed to go, and told him that the car had burned down. He burst into tears, couldn’t catch his breath, and was broken,” – said Diana Dembicka-Mączka, president of the foundation.
