An American paid for a new Tesla Model 3 for only $13,620

He skillfully took advantage of discounts and bonuses from various authorities and funds.

The buyer, who calls himself Zohar on Twitter, admitted that he paid only $13,620 for the Tesla Model 3 before taxes and fees. Although it cost $37,120 on the manufacturer’s website.

How did he do it?

In his tweet, he explains that it’s all thanks to “a unique combination of state/local rebates, federal tax credit, and a $4,120 rebate.” He knows he has made an amazing deal. That’s about what European buyers would now pay for the Dacia Spring, the most affordable electric car in Europe. But Tesla Model 3 is not Spring in terms of equipment, safety, power, technology, and size.

He bought a basic Tesla Model 3 in Midnight Silver Metallic with 18-inch aero wheels with all-season tires. He only paid extra for the white interior, which costs $1000.

The so-called “inventory discount” (i.e., for a car that was already in stock) reduced the price of the compact sedan by $4,120 at once. The referral network reduced the price by another $500 and also gave him a three-month free trial of the autopilot.

Because of the financial challenges it faced last year, Zohar qualified for the largest discount in every program available to low-income people. Meanwhile, his income has increased, so this year he also has a good credit history. This change helped him receive a $7,500 federal loan for an environmentally friendly car.

The Monterey Bay Air Resources District offered him a $4,000 discount as part of its electric vehicle incentive program. An additional $4,000 came from the Electrify Your Ride program from the Central Coast community. Thus, he received a total of $23,000 in incentives, up to $13,620.

However, he had to pay $1,390 for delivery and a 9.25 percent tax rate, which amounts to $3,515, so the total cost of his new car was $18,525.

The result is a much smaller car than the Tesla budget car that Elon Musk has been talking about for years. The sub-$25,000 Tesla, reportedly to be called the Model 2 (Model Q and Model I were also on the possible list of names), is set to roll off the assembly line at the Giga plant in Berlin. Most likely, it will be sold in Europe and China
