An explosion occurs at an ammunition plant in Britain

An explosion occurred at the BAE Systems plant in Glascod, Monmouthshire, where artillery shells are filled with explosives.

This was reported by local media.

The explosion occurred in a remote part of the facility where artillery shells are filled with explosives.

BAE Systems and representatives of the city’s emergency service said that there were no injuries among the staff.

A joint investigation has now been launched with the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service into the cause of the explosion.

Security protocols were immediately activated, and emergency services arrived at the scene of the explosion. All personnel have been evacuated, and our emergency response team continues to monitor the situation,” BAE Systems said.

The explosion occurred at 10:49 a.m. local time and, according to the company, the situation is now under control.

According to official employee records, Glascode employs more than 500 people.

BAE Systems reported that it would increase the production of artillery ammunition eightfold and create its own reserve of 155-mm shells.

Creating a reserve is a top priority for the Ministry of Defense, as Britain has found itself in a difficult position due to the transfer of large amounts of ammunition to Ukraine.

The value of the additional order is estimated at 130 million pounds, which will expand the production line in England and Wales.

The Ministry of Defense signed the first contract for the production of ammunition in 2022, worth 280 million pounds. The total value of the contract is currently estimated at 410 million pounds.

As a reminder, on April 15, a firebroke out in the United States at a factory producing ammunition, which is supplied to Ukraine, among other places.
