An unknown kamikaze drone has completely destroyed a Tu-22M3 strategic bomber right on the airfield in Russia
The day before, there was information about a kamikaze drone attack on the Russian airfield of Soltsy in the Novgorod region. Photos of a burning Tu-22M3 strategic bomber were published today.
The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed the attack and said that one aircraft was damaged. The type was not specified. At the same time, the Russian media reported that two planes were damaged.
As you can see, the airfield, which is located 700 kilometers from the border with Ukraine, did indeed house Tu-22M3 strategic bombers. Today, pictures have emerged showing a supersonic plane burning down.
The Tu-22M3 is a long-range bomber capable of carrying nuclear weapons. In the war against Ukraine, it is used to launch X-22 cruise missiles, which can fly at high speeds at low altitudes, causing problems for air defense.
It is important to note that production of the Tu-22M3 has already been completed. The bomber entered service in the mid-1980s. Over 22 years, almost 500 Tu-22M supersonic aircraft in various modifications have been produced. It is believed that Russia has about 60 Tu-22M3 bombers in service, but not all of them are in combat condition.
