Android 14 will allow you to turn your smartphone into a webcam
In the Android 14 beta, which was released on Wednesday, September 20, for Google Pixel smartphones, a feature was found that allows you to use your Android smartphone as a webcam without having to install third-party applications.
This was reported by The Verge.
This feature can be useful for those who want to improve the image quality of video calls or streams, as modern smartphones have much better cameras than many laptops.
How to use the webcam feature on your smartphone
To use this function, connect your smartphone to a PC or laptop via a USB cable and select the “Webcam” option in the USB connection settings window.
You can then customize the video stream settings, such as zooming in and out, and switching between the front and rear cameras of the device.
The feature is currently only available on Google Pixel devices, with the exception of Pixel Fold, but is expected to be rolled out to other Android smartphones after the official release of Android 14, which is scheduled for October 4, 2023.
Android’s webcam feature is based on the USB Video Class (UVC) standard, so it should work on all systems without any restrictions, including Windows, ChromeOS, Linux, and Mac.
