Apple did not allow adapting its phones to Russian communication networks

It is about support of VoLTE and VoWiFi functions on networks for phones of the iPhone 14 line

Russian mobile operators were unable to agree with Apple on the support of VoLTE and VoWiFi functions on their networks for iPhone 14 phones.

This is reported by ‘Kommersant’.

These functions improve the quality of communication, and VoLTE calls account for more than 60% of voice traffic in large Russian cities. Also, high-quality voice transmission is not available on the iPhone 14, and the distribution of the Internet from the phone requires manual configuration.

In addition, the functions of voice transmission over the LTE network (VoLTE) and Wi-Fi calls (VoWiFi) work incorrectly or do not work at all on iPhone 14 phones imported to the Russian Federation, according to users of the 4PDA profile forum.

The reason for this is the inability to apply the operator’s settings due to restrictions on the part of Apple, the press service of Vimpelcom (Beeline) explained.

The Tele2 operator added that VoLTE and VoWiFi are enabled on the operator’s network after testing with the vendor, but since March, interaction on all projects with Apple has stopped.

At the same time, MTS informed that they managed to activate VoLTE technology for the iPhone 14, ‘but there is no certainty that it will work stably on all models imported into the country, it is not possible to activate VoWiFi on these phones at all.’

VoWiFi restrictions were also confirmed in Megafon. The company clarified that subscribers can call via Wi-Fi through the eMotion application.

‘VoLTE allows you to use the Internet during a call and improves its quality, as well as reduces the load on 3G and 2G networks. VoWiFi allows you to use the Wi-Fi network for regular voice calls in areas of unstable network connection,’ the publication adds.
