Apple has invented a new Capture Button for iPhone

It will appear in all iPhone 16

It looks like this year and next year for the iPhone will be marked by the slogan “evolution of buttons.” After all, the iPhone 15 changed the key that has existed since the advent of Apple smartphones. But the company didn’t stop there and came up with a new Capture Button that will appear in the iPhone 16 next year.

Introduced a few weeks ago, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max received an Action Button, which replaced the mute switch that had existed since 2007. The more “budget” iPhone 15 (without the Pro prefix) does not yet have this button.

Next year’s iPhone 16 series will also get an additional capacitive button called the Capture Button. So far, it is only known that its functionality is being developed as part of Project Nova.

According to preliminary data, this capacitive grip button will be located on the right side of the iPhone, the same place as the power button. The Capture Button will be located below the place where the mmWave antenna cutout is on iPhone 15 models. And since the Capture Button will take the place of the mmWave cutout, the latter has been moved to the left frame, below the volume buttons.

Official sources have not yet disclosed the purpose of the Capture Button. It is expected to work like the iPhone SE’s Home button, simulating the pressing of a physical button. This key will also have a force sensor function. In addition, unlike the Action Button, which is only available on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, the Capture Button will be available for the entire iPhone 16 series, meaning that Vanilla and Plus models will also receive it.

Apple has also reportedly created a hardware configuration of the iPhone without the Capture Button as a backup in case things don’t go as expected.

In addition to the new button, the upcoming iPhone 16 series is expected to receive a capacitive action button called Project Atlas. It will have a design similar to the Capture Button and use strain gauges and vibration motors to provide tactile feedback.

In addition, the iPhone 16 is expected to have a redesigned camera protrusion with a vertical lens arrangement, like the iPhone 12. While the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will have screens of 6.3″ and 6.9″ respectively. This is 0.2 inches larger than their predecessors.

All of this information is based on pre-production models, and since the design of the iPhone 16 line is reportedly not yet finalized, there is always a chance that the final product we receive will be completely different.
