Apple tried to make Apple Watch compatible with Android, but it didn’t work

In light of monopoly allegations by the US Department of Justice, Apple has lifted the veil on its plans for the Apple Watch. The company shared that it had been studying the possibility of developing an Android-compatible version of Apple Watch for three years, but later came to the conclusion that it was impossible due to technical limitations.

This information comes amid accusations by the DOJ that Apple is using its smartwatch as a tool to keep users in the iPhone ecosystem. Apple Watch’s exclusive compatibility with the iPhone may force users to refuse to switch to Android in order not to lose their investment in the expensive gadget, according to the lawsuit.

Despite technical investigations and deliberations, Apple has decided not to expand support for Android, leaving the Apple Watch exclusive to iPhone users. This decision emphasizes the technical and business challenges the company faces in creating products that integrate with different ecosystems.

9to5Mac reports that the lack of an Android equivalent of the Apple Watch is not a justification for monopoly allegations. In particular, they mention Google’s acquisition of Fitbit and the inability to create a similar product that could compete with the Apple Watch and encourage users to switch to Android. This emphasizes the difficulties in creating competitive products in the field of wearable technology. In other words, the publication writes that Apple cannot be blamed for the fact that other tech companies have failed to invent a device like the Apple Watch for their smartphones.
