Apple wants to change the voice command ‘Hey Siri’
Apple is thinking about replacing the voice command to call the virtual assistant Siri. The modification will lead to the disappearance of the exclamation ‘Hey’ from the phrase. After that, the phrase “Hey Siri” will be shortened to just “Siri”.
The information about the corresponding intention of the ‘apple’ owners became the property of the public through the efforts of Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman. In a Power On newsletter released the day before, the character called the US tech giant’s plans ‘a serious technical challenge that requires a significant amount of AI training and underlying engineering.’
The release of the novelty will take place in 2023 or 2024, depending on how well testing and development go. The main difficulty is that the assistant must be able to understand the word wake. Even if it is pronounced in different accents and dialects. In addition, the company will increase the capabilities of the virtual assistant, giving it deeper interaction with applications and other services.
According to Gurman, Apple will ‘deeper integrate the voice assistant into third-party applications and services’, as well as ‘improve its ability to understand users’ and adequately respond to the commands of iPhone owners.
These measures are designed to give Apple an advantage over Google, whose devices respond to the commands ‘Ok Google’/’Hey Google’.
To check the activation of Siri, owners of ‘apple’ gadgets need to go to Siri & Search from ‘Settings’ and, if necessary, enable the ‘Hear ‘Hey Siri’ and ‘Allow when blocked’ options.
To configure Siri for voice recognition, you need to disable and re-enable “Hear Hey Siri”, click “Continue”, follow the recommendations displayed on the screen and click OK.
