Artificial intelligence for three hours for the first time operated the American XQ-58A Valkyrie strike drone

The US Air Force Research Laboratory has tested the XQ-58A Valkyrie drone. During the test flight, the unmanned aerial vehicle was controlled by artificial intelligence.

Flight tests took place on July 25, 2023 at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. During the three-hour flight, the artificial intelligence successfully controlled the XQ-58A Valkyrie drone manufactured by Kratos Defense & Security Solutions.

The test confirmed the feasibility of developing artificial intelligence for the CCA program, under which the US Air Force wants to receive 1,000 guided combat drones. Drones will work in conjunction with manned aircraft to distract enemy air defense and launch strikes.

During the test flight, the XQ-58A Valkyrie drone flew alongside an F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jet. The US Air Force plans to use guided drones with sixth-generation aircraft and F-35 Lightning II in the future.
