Artificial intelligence helps drones destroy camouflaged Russian equipment
Ukrainian developers together with the military initiative ‘Delta’ found a technological way to destroy camouflaged Russian equipment with the help of drones.
And that is why artificial intelligence algorithms are used. The developers taught the AI to recognize camouflaged armored vehicles. When shooting from an unmanned aerial vehicle, artificial intelligence identifies hidden equipment and marks it with red squares. After that, the UAV sends the coordinates to the drone operator and the staff commander.
Drones are usually equipped with one or more munitions, so they can immediately attack the target. For example, we recently wrote about the fact that Ukrainian enthusiasts made a quadcopter that can carry three 82 mm mines at once. There are also UAVs that can lift more bombs, ie. able to destroy two targets at once, in particular tanks.
The cost of an unmanned aerial vehicle is $15,000-20,000, and one bomb is $1,000. Even by the roughest estimates, six UAVs with a dozen bombs cost less than $200,000. The price of one Javelin anti-tank missile system is $600,000 complete with six missiles. Of course, it is hardly possible to call the comparison correct, but still.
The developers note that drones with AI do not use GPS during flight, which is why Russian countermeasures do not always work. Currently, specialists are engaged in the creation of drones that will be able to lift a load weighing 20 kg and fly at a distance of 50 km.
