Artificially intelligent strike drones will select and destroy targets by themselves

In the war, they are already starting to use attack drones that find targets and hit them themselves, using artificial intelligence.

The expert on unmanned systems believes that in the coming months, small drones will appear on the battlefield, which will identify targets and destroy them, they are called FPV. This will be possible due to the development of electronics: processors should become smaller. Complex products can be placed on a small drone, and the cost will be lower.

Artificial intelligence is already used in drones. AI is when drones use optical navigation, recognize targets, or decide on their own which route to take, taking into account external factors. Soon, drones will be able to fly in large swarms and independently select and attack targets.

For example, it will become commonplace for a vehicle to approach the front line and a large swarm of drones to fly out of it, flying toward the enemy and destroying their armored vehicles and soldiers. Moreover, these drones will be no more complex than the ones we have now. Currently, only the weight and cost of the equipment is holding back such scenarios. When this is overcome, such systems will be able to perform combat missions without operators.

Every drone, regardless of function, that flies over 50 kilometers has no pilot. It’s not just hard algorithms that control, there is always an element of AI. Optical map navigation, target detection, inertial navigation system activation when GPS is suppressed, wind strength and direction, altitude, compass data, own speed, and other parameters – this is an AI program that works within the limits of probabilities and makes decisions on its own.
