AS9 Huntsman self-propelled gun tested with Rheinmetall shells

The Korean AS9 Huntsman self-propelled artillery systems prepared for shipment to Australia tested Rheinmetall Assegai ammunition. The test was conducted at a test site in South Korea. This was reported on its website by the Australian Ministry of Defense.

Hanwha Defense engineers are working on adapting artillery systems to 155-mm Australian-made ammunition, including Rheinmetall Assegai shells. The tests conducted at the range confirmed the safety of using Australian ammunition in tandem with the Korean self-propelled gun.

During the next tests, Hanwha Defense specialists plan to collect ballistic data. They will be needed to use the AS9 Huntsman in conjunction with the modernized tactical data system of field artillery units designed to coordinate firing.

In 2021, official Canberra placed an order for 30 K9 Thunder units. In Australia, they are called AS9 Huntsman.
