At CES, the Ring company demonstrated the Always Home Cam drone for patrolling the home while the owners are away

At the end of 2020, the Ring company announced the Always Home Cam autonomous mini-drone, which is being developed for patrolling private homes and their surroundings when the owners are not at home. At the CES 2023 exhibition, which is currently underway in Las Vegas, the company first demonstrated the promising model, although the date of the final release has not yet been announced.

The complete kit, including the docking station, looks more like a desktop kitchen gadget than a security drone. It appeared to be slightly larger than previously shown in the Ring demo video, and the model does not look like any of the popular drones on the market.

The Ring team revealed some details about the device, including that each floor will be patrolled by a separate instance. First of all, we are talking about the first floor.

The training will take place in a rather unusual way — the owner will ‘show’ the UAV the route, bypassing the house and its surroundings with the drone in his hands several times, after which it will remember exactly where to fly and control the house by making a series of flights. It will be possible to set different routes, as well as individual waypoints – for example, to check whether the stove is turned off and whether the back door is closed.

If the owner feels that something is wrong in the controlled area, he can make the drone hover in one place and return around the axis to inspect the entire nearby area.

It is known that a special program has not been developed for the new model – the functions will be available already in the existing Ring software, at least when the new product goes on sale. However, the company does not share its plans and release dates, the price of the device will also be announced later. Demonstration of the prototype at the exhibition indirectly testifies to the high level of readiness of Always Home Cam.
