Attack on Belgorod: Russian authorities report casualties as a result of Vampire and Tochka-U MLRS strikes
Russia’s defense ministry claimed that air defense was successful, but there was destruction and casualties in Belgorod and the region. They were taken to the hospital.
On the night and morning of March 16, Belgorod and the region were attacked. The region was attacked with various types of weapons. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on Telegram.
“Last night, the Kyiv regime’s attempts to carry out terrorist attacks using aircraft-type UAVs, Tochka-U tactical missile system and RM-70 Vampire multiple launch rocket system against targets in the Russian Federation were stopped,” the statement said.
Russian air defense allegedly intercepted and destroyed three UAVs, a rocket and a Tochka-U missile over the Belgorod region. In addition, around 8:00 Moscow time, Russian air defense allegedly shot down eight RM-70 Vampire missiles over the region. And around 8:30, two drones were allegedly destroyed. Around 9:00, Russian air defense systems shot down another drone over the Belgorod region.
According to the governor of the region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, Russian air defense was allegedly triggered over Belgorod and the region, and eight Vampire MLRS missiles were destroyed on their approach to the city. He noted that there were casualties as a result of the attack.
“Unfortunately, two people were killed: a man and a woman. The man was driving a truck when it was hit by a shell, after which the vehicle crashed into a passenger bus,” Gladkov said.
He emphasized that citizens were not injured. Another woman was killed in a garage cooperative where she came with her son to feed the dogs. She died on the spot, while doctors are fighting for her son’s life – he has shrapnel wounds to the back of the head, shoulder and chest.
Two men also suffered closed head injuries, their condition is satisfactory. The victims were taken to the hospital and are being provided with the necessary assistance.
In Belgorod, destruction was recorded: windows were smashed in seven high-rise buildings, and glazing on balconies and loggias was damaged. Two social and two commercial facilities were also damaged, and 15 vehicles were destroyed.
Destruction was also recorded in several villages of Belgorod district, namely in Dubove village, six private houses and two outbuildings were damaged, in Severnyi and Razumne villages – one private house and a car each, and the building of the City Mall shopping center was damaged by shrapnel.
