Aurora Borealis in the sky over Ukraine: astronomer explains rare phenomenon (photo)

On the evening of Sunday, November 5, Ukrainians in some regions could see a rare phenomenon – the aurora borealis. This could have happened due to a geomagnetic storm

Astronomer Volodymyr Kazhanov writes about this.

“There was a powerful geomagnetic storm associated with the bombardment of our planet by a coronal mass ejection that occurred on the Sun a few days ago,” the statement said.

According to the astronomer, this phenomenon will be repeated in the future. But it is difficult to predict the exact time and date of this.

Kazhanov notes that it is worth looking at the northern side of the sky: “If possible, find a place to observe, without light pollution, away from street lights and tall trees or buildings. It is desirable to have a view of the horizon.”

The last time an unusual celestial phenomenon similar to the northern lights was recorded in Ukraine was on the night of April 24.
