Australia has fined the social network Mask X for a tidy sum
The Australian regulator has fined Elon Musk’s social network Twitter $386,000 for refusing to cooperate with an investigation into child abuse.
It is noted that the Electronic Security Commission fined the social network because it failed to answer questions about child abuse materials and the methods it used to detect them.
“The only reason not to answer important questions about illegal content and behavior on platforms is because you don’t have the answers,” said Inman Grant, who was public policy director at X until 2016.
According to Australian laws that came into force in 2021, the regulator can force online companies to provide information about their online security practices, otherwise they face a fine. If X refuses to pay the fine, the regulator can sue the company.
- The European Union may take measures against X (Twitter), as the social network is spreading disinformation about the war in Israel.
