“Bohdana” in armor: Ukrainian howitzer received protection from enemy drones (photo)

The Ukrainian self-propelled howitzer Bohdana has received special protective screens made of metal mesh to protect it from drones.

This is the work of the soldiers of one of the artillery crews of the 47th separate artillery brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The brigade posted the photos on its Facebook page.

The metal mesh shields are designed to protect the wheeled self-propelled vehicle primarily from enemy attack drones that are constantly hunting for Ukrainian artillery.

Judging by the photos, the structures cover important parts of the Bohdan self-propelled artillery system – the front and upper part of the cab, where the driver and howitzer crew are located, the hood over the engine, and the places where the 155-mm ammunition and powdered throwing charges are stored.

The main function of this design is to protect against light attack FPV drones, or to reduce the effectiveness of Russian barrage munitions such as Lancet.

“The photo shows the result of the work of one of the artillery crews – a system to protect the gun from enemy unmanned barrage ammunition,” the brigade explained.

The military unit notes that the artillery soldiers spent a lot of time creating this defense, but were satisfied with the work done.

“The guys decided to call this project HARKONNEN, it took a lot of effort and time, but the result is already impressive and justifies all the efforts made,” the 47th Brigade said.

As a reminder, the armor of the Bohdan self-propelled howitzer’s cab withstood a direct hit from a Russian Lancet kamikaze drone and saved the lives of Ukrainian soldiers. This happened in February of this year.

The photos show that the cabin of the Ukrainian 155-mm caliber self-propelled artillery system on a three-axle MAZ chassis has been significantly damaged.

The armor was able to withstand the impact and thus save the lives of the crew, according to the Ukrainian Armor Company, which is the manufacturer of the armored cab for this wheeled artillery unit.
