Canada blocked $330 million in Russian assets

More than 412 million Canadian dollars (about $330 million) have been blocked in Canada as part of the implementation of anti-Russian economic sanctions for violating the sovereignty of Ukraine. This was announced by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

“Since February 24, funds in the amount of about 121.9 million Canadian dollars in equivalent have been frozen in Canada and transactions for more than $290.6 million have been stopped, in accordance with the prohibitions defined by the Act on Special Economic Measures against Russia,” law enforcement officers said.

Since August, the total value of frozen property and funds of the Russian Federation has increased by 1 million Canadian dollars.

  • Britain has frozen Russian assets worth a total of 18.39 billion pounds ($20.5 billion) since tough sanctions were imposed on Russia in response to aggression against Ukraine.
  • In October, the British OFSI agreed with its American colleagues on a “strong partnership” in the introduction of sanctions against Russia.
