Cars registered in Belarus will be confiscated in Latvia

Latvia’s Saeima has approved amendments to the country’s traffic law, according to which the country will confiscate vehicles registered in Belarus. They are to be transferred to Ukraine
This was reported by Apollo.

Last year, amendments to the law adopted by the parliament came into force, which prohibit cars with Russian license plates from staying in Latvia from mid-February 2024. If a vehicle is not registered in Latvia and it is found to have been used illegally while driving, it will be confiscated and transferred to Ukraine.

The new amendments proposed by the country’s opposition concern cars with Belarusian license plates: such vehicles must leave the territory of Latvia or their owners must re-register them in the country within three months of the law’s entry into force.

The publication emphasizes that the amendments also stipulate that unauthorized use of a car registered in Belarus will result in a fine of €750 to €2 thousand. However, in this case, the vehicle will be confiscated.

On February 15, it became known that cars with Russian license plates would be confiscated in Latvia. They are to be transferred to Ukraine.
