China claims to have developed ‘most powerful’ microwave drone weapon combining radar and electronic warfare
Just a few days after the United States demonstrated one of the most powerful microwave weapons capable of jamming signals over a large area, China announces the development of the world’s most powerful microwave weapon that can be installed in a drone.
Researchers led by Professor Li Jianbin emphasize the versatility of the microwave source. It is noted that it can perform several functions, including radar operation, monitoring targets on the ground, in the water or in the sky, and creating electronic interference.
The compact design makes it easy to customize the weapon for installation on different drones. You can also use the system in plug-and-play mode.
Unlike conventional small microwave sources, which often have limited power and frequency range, the new development is positioned as a game changer. It can operate in an ultra-wide frequency range and compete with larger weapons, such as professional electronic warfare aircraft.
The main component of the system is a traveling wave lamp. Although this technology has traditionally been used as a microwave generator, Chinese scientists have repurposed it into an ultra-sensitive antenna, eliminating the need for a separate radar on the drone. This innovation combined with a compact design makes this technology a powerful tool for electronic warfare.
