China has created clothing that makes a person invisible to surveillance cameras with AI
Chinese graduate students were able to create clothing that blinds video surveillance systems operating on the basis of artificial intelligence algorithms.
The camouflage is called InvisDefense. It was developed by a group of graduate students from Wuhan University as part of a cyber security innovation competition, where they were able to take first place. By the way, the competition was held with the support of Huawei.
Graduate students tested their development at the university. Outwardly, it looks like an ordinary cloak with a camouflage pattern, but for AI-based security systems it is an invisibility cloak. The accuracy of recognition of video surveillance cameras with artificial intelligence decreased by more than half (by 57%). However, the students plan to improve InvisDefense.
Camouflage is able to deceive the recognition system both during the day and at night. A special image is applied to the clothes, which misleads the artificial intelligence during the day. During the analysis in infrared light, the wiring that emits heat and creates an unusual thermal pattern comes into play, hiding the person from the camera lenses.
The cost of InvisDefense will be $70 if the clothing reaches retail. The graduate students also said that they plan to create the same camouflage for vehicles and will think about how to fool satellite tracking systems.
