On February 3, China launched 11 Geely-02 satellites belonging to the Chinese car manufacturer Geely Holding Group into orbit, English.News reports.
These satellites are designed to provide accurate navigation data to the company’s self-driving cars.
Using a Long March-2C launch vehicle, 11 Geely-02 satellites were launched from the Chinese Xichang Satellite Launch Center at 1:37 a.m. Kyiv time and successfully entered the target orbit.
Geely’s goal is to create a constellation of satellites in low Earth orbit that will provide high-precision positioning for its self-driving cars.
These satellites will also be used for commercial satellite communications and telecommunications services.
The first 9 satellites were launched into orbit in June 2022, and by 2025, Geely plans to launch 72 spacecraft. In total, the constellation will consist of 240 satellites.
