Chinese H-6N bomber spotted with new YJ-21 air-to-air missile

A photo of a Xian H-6N jet bomber with an air-to-air anti-ship missile was posted on Chinese social media.

This was reported by видання Defence Blog.

The new missile system is reportedly called the YJ-21. Experts believe that the warhead of the homing missile is maneuverable and hypersonic.

Most likely, it is primarily designed to destroy ships, but it is possible to destroy land objects.

Experts suggest that the missile’s range can be up to 1,500 kilometers, and its speed is 9 strokes.

Reports from the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy indicate that the YJ-21 was developed using the technical solutions of the DF-21D anti-ship ballistic missile.

China’s anti-ship capabilities

According to Militarnyi, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy conducted exercises using YJ-62 anti-ship missiles that cover almost the entire Yellow Sea.

The exercise took place in Haiyang, Shandong Province on the coast of China. Such exercises are probably the first of their kind and have strategic implications for the Yellow Sea.

The YJ-62 or Yingji-62 is a Chinese medium-range transonic anti-ship missile with an AGSN designed to engage surface ships of various purposes.

The Chinese claim that it can operate in the face of electronic countermeasures.

The missile can be used on coastal missile systems, aircraft, surface ships and submarines.

The missile is available in two versions – the YJ-62 with a range of up to 400 kilometers and the export C-602 with a range of up to 280 kilometers.

It is equipped with a WS-500 engine, and a booster is installed on sea- and land-based missiles.

The missile has a launch weight of 1,350 kilograms and a warhead weight of 300 kilograms.

China’s maritime ambitions

Earlier it became known that an electromagnetic catapult was tested on the Chinese aircraft carrier Fujian.

The catapult test is an important stage of testing of any modern aircraft carrier, which is carried out before the sea trials.

It is known that the Fujian is due to go to sea next year, and commissioning, if no problems are found, is scheduled for 2025.

The electromagnetic catapult is a novelty in the PLA Navy, and the Fujian was the first Chinese aircraft carrier to receive it. Other aircraft carriers, the Liaoning (formerly the Varyag of Project 1143 Kretshet) and the national Shandong, are equipped with a springboard.

Earlier, on November 25, it was reported that China was introducing stealth elements on its 039A (Yuan) class diesel-electric submarines, the modernization was designated 039C.

Recently, new submarines of the 039C class were spotted with a new stealth superstructure (in nautical slang, a sail), which is designed to reduce the vessel’s visibility on enemy sonar.

Previously, this was only an assumption, but Chinese scientists published a study in the Polish journal Archives of Acoustics that measured the effect of a similar design on sonar pulses.
