Denmark announces the largest military aid package for Ukraine
The Danish government will provide Ukraine with the largest military aid since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, amounting to DKK 5.8 billion (about $831 million), the press service of the Danish Ministry of Defense reports.
“A new package of donations to Ukraine in the amount of 5.8 billion Danish kroner will provide the country’s military defense with tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, tank ammunition and anti-aircraft guns. This is the 12th and largest donation package that Denmark has sent to Ukraine since the invasion,” the Defense Ministry said in a statement posted on its website on Tuesday.
It is noted that this package is financed by the Ukraine Foundation. It provides for the provision, in cooperation with international partners, of a number of in-demand items (including tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, tank ammunition, and anti-aircraft systems) that can support Ukraine’s military defense.
“The transfer of this package is subject to the approval of the Finance Committee,” the Defense Ministry said.
According to Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen, it is important that countries such as Denmark continue to provide military and economic support to further protect Ukraine from the Russian aggressor.
“We are currently making Denmark’s largest financial contribution to date under the auspices of a group of countries that meet regularly at Ramstein under American leadership,” the press service quoted the minister as saying.
According to Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, thanks to this aid package, Denmark is moving to a new stage.
“…After more than a year and a half of war, we have practically depleted our defense stocks. That is why we are now considering more targeted joint procurement and international cooperation that meets Ukraine’s needs here and now,” Rasmussen said.
The Danish Defense and Foreign Ministers also informed the Foreign Policy Committee about the assistance before the upcoming meeting of the contact group on Ukraine’s defense in the Ramstein format.
