“Destroy this wall!” – Zelensky’s sharp speech in the German Bundestag
The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the Bundestag deputies with a sharp speech addressed to the German leadership.
He accused him of indulging Russia in the fact that it was not human lives that came first, but economic interests.
“I am addressing you after we saw how many connections your companies have left with Russia, with a state that simply uses you and some other countries to finance the war.“, – he stated via online video.
“During the three weeks of the war for our lives, for our freedom, we became convinced of what we had felt before and that you probably don’t all notice yet. You seem to be behind the wall again. Yes, not in Berlin. But behind the wall in the middle of Europe between freedom and slavery. And this wall grows stronger with each bomb that falls on our land. With every decision that is not made for the sake of peace“, – stressed the president.
Zelensky mentioned the position of Germany on the completion of the Nord Stream gas pipeline, emphasizing that Ukraine has always insisted: “Nord Streams are Weapons and Preparations for a Great War”
“And we heard in response: after all, it is the economy, economy, economy. And it was cement for a new wall”, – he emphasized.
“When we asked you what Ukraine needs to do to become a member of NATO, to be safe and to have security guarantees, we heard the answer – such a decision is not on the table yet and will not be in the near future. Like the chairs for us at this table. You are still delaying the issue of Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. For some, it’s politics, but in reality, it’s a stepping stone to a new wall” – said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
He also said that even after appeals to Germany for preventive sanctions against Russia, Ukraine had heard about the economy again.
“Former actor, US President Ronald Reagan once said in Berlin: “Destroy this wall!” I want to tell you now: Chancellor Stolze, tear down this wall!”
Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged that “overseas states have turned out to be closer to us than you.”
At the same time, he thanked Germans who support refugees, journalists who show the truth, businessmen who put people’s values above the economy.
“And to those politicians who are trying to break this wall by choosing between money and people’s lives, and who support sanctions against Russia” – said the president.
