Drivers and users of Google Maps should be prepared for changes and loss of functionality
In the new version of the app, users will be forced to switch to an unusual way of navigation.
Google will soon remove the useful driver mode from its mapping service. This was reported by Android Police.
We’re talking about the Driving Assistant. This is a special design of the application that highlights key interface elements for easy use while driving, and also provides the ability to control navigation by voice.
Only voice control will remain as a useful feature for drivers, and everything else will be unavailable. The exact date when the new interface will be completely disabled is unclear, but it is expected to happen by the end of February 2024.
Although Google probably decided to remove the feature for the sake of safety while driving, some users may not like this change, especially those who prefer the old way of controlling the application using the touch screen.
At the same time, voice control also has a significant disadvantage: the assistant does not always understand a person correctly.
Earlier, Google disabled the Chrome browser for old smartphones, as well as two popular applications, Google Calendar and Android Auto. Now they require a smartphone running Android 8.0 or later.
