European electric vehicles will receive an innovation – battery passports
Electric cars sold on the European car market will receive an additional document. We are talking about a “battery passport.” According to Autocar, it will be introduced in February 2027.
The Battery Pass consortium will be responsible for implementing the new document. The project will be funded by the German government. It will be attended by leading automakers, including BMW and Audi.
The passport will contain the following information:
- Data on materials;
- Sources of supply;
- Length of service;
- Performance.
The exact list of data is still being discussed. It is highly likely that it will be supplemented with information on battery disposal. In total, 90 different data from seven categories are being discussed.
For automakers, the passport will cost 7-12.8 EUR. Only experts will have access to all the information in the document. Only certain items of the passport will be available to owners of electric cars.
