Every fourth bridge in Ukraine is in critical condition – inspection results
The Bridge Inspection Commission has analyzed the condition of most bridges in Ukraine and concluded that 24% of them are in critical condition, i.e., fully or partially unusable.
The Commission for Assessment of Bridges in Ukraine found that more than a quarter of bridges are in critical condition. This situation is a matter of serious concern, and Oleksandr Kubrakov, Vice Prime Minister for Recovery, emphasized that immediate measures should be taken to prevent possible risks.
Based on the results of the commission’s work, specific proposals were formulated, including legislative prioritization of funding for the reconstruction and overhaul of emergency bridges.
The Commission also suggested that bridge owners conduct an inspection of emergency structures and develop emergency action plans to be implemented and reported.
Bridges of national importance located in the territory of territorial communities will be transferred to the Restoration Agency, and it has already received proposals from balance holders for 28 bridges.
Additionally, the Analytical Expert Bridge Management System (AEMS) will be used to help plan the construction and maintenance of bridges based on constantly updated information about their condition.
Information on the condition of the bridges and proposals for solving the problems will be submitted to the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
